Rhode Island cities and towns are straining their snow removal budgets having gotten whacked twice with heavy snow this winter season so far. Cranston Mayor Allan Fung told Channel 10 ,his city has spent $177,000 in snow removal due to the fact that he had to hire outside vendors to battle the storm. Warwick spent overĀ  $100,000 on the first storm, reported Mayor Scott Avedisian.

"We're going back to old fashioned fundraisers to raise needed money", says Fung. "When we were in school, we'd sell candy door to door, hot dog days at school, penny socials and a bunch of other stuff. It always worked. We're asking the citizens of Cranston to bake a cake and drop it off at City Hall, so we can sell it and add the money to the snow fund. If every man woman and child in the city donates a cake, we'll make it through the winter."
